Well I just noticed that we reached a new most ever online today at 1:20 something. Are there more people on trop hours or are people logging in at work? Just trying to get a feel here. As I have stated before, I log on at work every now and then - especially if I am looking for news on a current topic or event or message. Anyway, I have also stated that I rarely - very rarely ever post during working hours.
What's everyone else's take on this?

I believe I have made a couple post during the work day. Not a habit though. I have browsed during lunch or if I know a hot topic is bieng discussed, I'll sneak a peak. Otherwise, I wait until I am at home to post.
I believe there is still the 30 minutes of browse time during the workday, :o ,
I probably should know this, maybe that's just what crew told me and I believed it :) ............Timbuktoo will probably be pinging tomorrow in Depoe Bay! :D

Well I have never logged on from work. I only log on and post from home.

With the use of the 30 minutes authorized, you can post at work, I usually look inthe morning, and once in the afternoon.

According to the Instruction you are authorized 30 min, so you are right on that one.
I check at lunch time to see what is going on, but mostly post and read at home. Chris hit on it, I think folks are reading at or just after lunch. With all the different time zones, that would be just after Trop hours for some, lunchtime for others, and just before leaving for lunch.

Depends on the string. If we are discussing official policies or situations that we need to discuss then I feel that it is ok to be posting during the work day. Especially if a fellow Chief is helping me out with a situation, this is a great resource. The humor pages, fishing stories, motorcycle threads, etc fall more under the personal 30 minute rule in my mind. Unless of course we are talking about the Dallas Cowboys any time is good then.

DITTO.
For me I have no other Chiefs to ping stuff off of in the office. Ill come in, look around for a couple minutes and BAM...back to work. Probably spend an average of 10 minutes a day here. "get my fix"

Well like I have said in other threads I review and post during work and I don’t think I’m on more then 30 min anyways. Throughout the day I log into see what’s new. We refer to this site as our mess. We as chiefs are in the Chiefs mess all the time and of course when were busy were spend less time there. I my opinion when I’m here I am in the chiefs mess speaking with my fellow chiefs. If you feel you cant tell your boss that you’re that you are in the mess discussing chief things then you should be in the mess regardless of were that mess is. I think of it as I’m in the mess. If you have a problem coming here then you should have a problem going into you local mess.

If they have questions, just remember, pre-internet days, these conversations were handled over landlines.
The advent of email reduced some of the calls. It was easier to send your thoughts on the way and when the receiver opened it, read it, they could respond on their time schedule, not yours. A similiar time table works here.
I don't think time spent here in this mess should count against the 30 minute time rule, although some would get upset if you spent the whole day perusing the forums vice doing your mission.
Well, that's this retiree's opine.

I agree with that opinion and it makes perfect sense to me.
I was/am fully aware of the alotted 30 mins, I was just wondering how others feel about it and if anyone has ever caught any flack for posting or reading...

I consider reading and posting to this forum an extention to my duty as a chief. I feel no guilt or wrong doing when I am here. My actual "Chief's Mess" is over at the other HQ building and I get good information from this forum. 24/7/365 on duty...

I suppose the question needs to be posed, do you consider yourself a professional and part of a professional culture and organization? If so sites like this are a part of that in my opinion. Like the Master Chief says, 365/24/7.

No tiptoeing around here.
Yes, I post from work. I also read the forums at work. As was stated earlier, I can do it here, in person, cell or hardline.. but somehow someway I WILL network with fellow Chiefs to get the mission accomplished.
Better here where we can get more well rounded input than just in the local mess where sometimes people are "too close" to a situation to give objective thoughts.

Eric, without taking anything away from local messes, I would say you have an excellent point!
