View Full Version : When do you Drop From the Rolls?

Okay, the list just came out for the Silver-Badge jobs. When do those people officially drop off their respective rating rolls?
Yes, I'm being completely mercenary about this... There are two MSTCMs and an MSTCS on the list. When do they no longer count as MSTs, and officially become POCMs and POCSs? Is it right when they are released to apply to Special Assignments, or is it when they accept the billet? Or is it the first of the year... or when they actually PCS?
My DOR is dependant upon this... so I'm kinda interested...
Thanks!

I would say , it would be when they execute their orders. But before you run to the exchange, you have to see if any of the Gold Badges going back into the pool are from your rate. The more that go back, in the slower your advancement.
And they already said that they're going to re-solict for the billets that they couldn't fill, so .......... more MSTCSs and MSTCMs might be going for the Badge.....

I wouldn't count on them "dropping off the rolls", either..I'm not aware of any policy that says that the Sector CMC/CSC jobs are "out of rating". I'd check w/ the MST RFMC and/or the Special Assignents detailer. BUT, I imagine it's a question that no one has yet thought of an answer to...
Don't sweat your date of rate...it'll happen when it happens & you'll get a least a couple day's notice - nothing you can do now to change it, right?

I would have to go with the assumption that they do. On the Special Assignment web site they say that after the board, Special Assignments Officer will send the request to have the candidates released from rate.
And I was told that I wouldn't be released from rate to take one of those assignments. Of course they may have just told me that to protect my fragile ego,...........

I can understand that the BM detailers are feeling a little raked over the coals, considering how many BMs "walked away from the rating" (to quote one of my buddies) & into the CMC world this past year...just wait til (some of us) walk back!

I don't see it as walking away from the rate, I see it as serving in another capacity. Just go with this, for people taking one of those Silver Badge jobs, they're out of rate for two years. Go with a BM that has an AtoN background and they're going to send him to one of the rate related office jobs. They lose him from AtoN for four years.
You only truely walk away from your rate when you, ascend to Warrant, apply for OCS, retire, or switch rates.
And how many people do we lose when the AOs stop wanting to work with people when it's time for them to transfer ? How many people have been told to go ahead and retire if they didn't like their choices ? How many people were told to put in a Silver Badge package by their AOS ?
Those Silver/Gold Badge jobs are still CG billets. The people in them are still serving. You don't serve one rate, you serve all rates....... and for two years. It should be seen as a positive thing, from everybody.

a little confused here... If there is a MSTCS on the list does that mean that he cannot make E9 until he goes back to his rate or that he is above the cut for 9 already?

A little confused by your question.....
If you're asking if everyone on the list is going to make 9, the answer is no. Of the original 35 Sector jobs that were created, 18 are 9 and 17 are 8 jobs. About half the people on the list were asking for 8 jobs. I don't know which jobs will be filled in 07 and which ones will be filled later. I think that six of them were already filled this year by people already occupying the collateral duty billet.
If you're asking if the people that were above the cut for the rate would still advance while assigned to a CMC/CSC job, I would say yes. The way I read the solicitaion, it said that people above the cut should ask for the jobs in the higher pay grade. That would make me believe that when your number came up, you would still advance to E-9.
And not to keep bringing this back around to BMs, but I can use it as a frame of referrence without looking anything up, but two of the three BMCSs are above the cut for 9.

I guess my question was more related to the next 3 SWE's. If they are out of rate and others from that rate will fill the openings they left, does that mean they can't advance during their entire next tour?
Doesn't pertain to me at all, just curious.

My guess is that this would not be any different from any other special assignments billet. And those you can still compete/take the SWE. At least I believe you can. I don;t know that the list would be long for people to fill a 2,3,4 year billet without being able to compete on the SWE.

Hello all,
I've got orders to a Sector Command Senior Chief job and I'm not going out to buy a new rating badge. We are maintaining our current badges and the tour is just like every other special assisngment job. We are going to be "out of rate" for that tour.
I'm really looking forward to my new job. I've been in electronics for 20+ years and Ithink this will be a nice change.

Hi Stu,
Yes I chose Sector Lower. I had the choice of all the E8 jobs and chose this lovely area. But Honestly I think it will be a win-win. I know the huge AOR and am already working with all crews/commands. And I get to homestead for the first time in my career. To be honest, I'm really looking forward to the job, I think I'll be very busy, on the road alot, but I think it will be great.
Where are you transferring to?

Dave, it's good to know that you'll be in that area. I'm heading up to the GREENBRIER, Natchez MS, sometime in June.

Hi Stu,
I saw that in another thread. Look forward to working with you. Greenbrier is a great boat and the SSD is the nicest around. I'm starting the CSC job probably Jul 1st.
