Bruce, you missed me by a couple of days, just placed an order with the UDC. But since you started the thread, anyone want a five stripe or a BMCS patch,......only worn once...........

Damn, I just bought a BMCS patch. My BMC patch ended up being pretty beat up, otherwise I would offer to others.

Yeah, but you guys still got your's from the UDC when they were something like $3.20. The old salty ones were around $28.00........ And Bill, if I get that Silver Badge job , I'm going to have to go to the tailor again, so I'll let you in on the ground floor of a BMCM patch, .......... might wear it once this thursday..........

Confused JP3?
I will venture a guess that if Stu get's the silver badge job, he will get a new rating badge that has a shield vice fouled anchors, which denotes a full time CMC, rather than a collateral duty CMC. The only question I would have is if that is the "proper protocol" for the new silver badge positions.

Jim, when the D7 Gold Badge was down here he was telling me how expense the patch was going to be and he mentioned that I might have to invest in whites also........., so I assumed that it was going to fall that way. The full time jobs go thru the Special Assignments Officer and EPM drafts the released from rate message.......... again I'm assuming........ but that's the way I think that it will be.

Stu - I don't suppose the BMCS Patch that is offered is the black for the Dinner Dress Blue uniform is it??? I am getting married in the DDB next March and I am being optimistic that I will make it before March 2nd.
I bought the blue one already.

Not, it's the blue one for the Bravo Jacket. But congrats on the advancement and the marriage......
But I think the Dinner Dress Blue has the blue patch. I think the Dinner Blue Dress Jacket uses the Black patch. I'm looking through the Uniform Regs, anyone know for sure ?
Everything I see says the background on the patch will be the same color as the jacket.

I might be a little confused on the exact name of the uniform, it will be the black "tuxedo" one that I will be wearing ( I checked - it is Dinner Dress Blue Jacket). I bought it for my brother's wedding, so all I have to do is up date the service stripes and the BMCS patch.
Thanks anyway Stu, I am off to Vanguard unless the local CSC has one that is extra. He told me he might.

There are two dinner dress combinations, one is a black tux looking (have to buy from Navy, and replace the buttons to CG) it has black patches, the other is just the SDB jacket and blue patches. Not sure why they call the black uniform a Dinner Dress Blue, though. The black one is sharp, just not many places to wear it and it is about 500 bucks all together.

Didn't even feel it. It was about 400 miles south of us as it passed. But I think that we will be the only ones in D7 who won't get wet from it.

If anyone is looking to pick up the Dinner Dress (black tux), try going to a local Navy Base and perusing through their reclaimed uniform shop (Lucky Bag). You can get it for under $100.00, but will need to get the CG Buttons, etc. done.

Brett, it is called the "Black, dinner dress blue" jacket as it is used (supposedly) ONLY for black tie events, or things you would normally wear a tuxedo to.
And thanks for the lucky bag suggestion... I have to buy one of the jackets for my next job.
DCCS Brett Wickett

Hey Jerald, find the "Black" Dinner Dress Blue uniform in the Uniform Manual.
I know the uniform is black, but it is still just called the Dinner Dress Blue. At least in the Uniform Manual I have. If I am not mistaken the Uniform Manual lists 14 different uniforms. Granted it still lists the Undress and the Working Blue. And out of those 14 it does not say "Black Dinner Dress Blue" anywhere. Now there may be a new upgraded manual from the one I have, and it may say "Black". If so, cool. Mine is 1020.6.E
Either way the black looks sharp, just not many places to wear it and it is expensive. I owned one for about 3 days as i had to buy one for the CPO Academy because the UDC did not have any SDB jackets. I was able to borrow one from a fellow Chief so I promtly returned the black one. I just could not see a use for one for the remainder of my career.

If you "have" to buy one then you "have" to get reimbursed. You can't be "made" to buy something thats not listed for basic required sea bag items.;) It doesn't matter what your next job is.

Another great source of uniform items is the lucky bag at the Uniform store at the Academy in New London. They have all kinds of ceremonial uniform items at great prices as long as you mind wearing something a convicted murderer might have worn.
Funny story...
I picked up three trop shirts there in the early 90's. All three had cadet names on them. I was tucking in one the shirts in front of a cadet we had for the summer when he got this strange look on his face and asked, "Where did you get that shirt?"
Long story short, it was a 3rd year cadet ** from Alaska who was convicted of murder between his Junior and Senior year. He didn't graduate but he must have been a pretty big guy because I am 6'5". He also ironed his shirts real well because it had primo military creases.
It's definitely a small Coast Guard.

The Dinner Dress Blue Jacket may look black, but the official color is called Navy Blue, just looks black.
For what it is worth, the US Navy uniform shop, a part of the Navy Exchange online has almost all CG comparable rating badges and hashmarks for that uniform at very reasonable prices. Just have to get the CG buttons and go to Vanguard for the gold shield on melton cloth.
The CG and Navy issue CPO rating badges have machine embroidery and meet the requirements, but the silver bullion embroidered eagle, specialty mark and the gold lace chevrons have a long, long tradition for the CPO. It is well worth it, for traditions sake to spend the $ 40 or so for a bullion CPO rating badge. They've really only gone up from $25 or so from 33 years ago.

Looking to pass on 5 OinC afloat ODU patches. It was a tough one to take off the uniform, but passing them on to a new home will make it a little better. Let me know and I'll get the out in the mail.
