Requested it, been there, done that.

The USAFSNCOA is a kick-butt school, with about 5% of what they teach being Air Force specific. There are VERY specific writing requirements, and you have no choice but to get up in front of people and lead discussions and deliver speeches.

I VERY highly recommend it.

When I was there, there were about a dozen Army Command Sergeants Major (E-9s), and about the same number of Navy Chiefs and Coastie Chiefs. It is a GREAT way to teach some of our brothers and sisters about our service and missions.

If anyone wants info, just post, e-mail or call my work number... I'll be happy to share my experiences!!

I have to say even if you've attended the CPO Academy think seriously about attending the AF-SNCOA. I did both as did a couple of other people I know and it was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my career.
In my class we had over 420 people and we were split up into 21 "flights" similar to the "MCPO Teams" at the CPO Academy. We only were engaged with the other flights during our "all hands" other than that it was specific "flight training". We also had every armed service represented along with 2 members for the Canadian Coast Guard.
Along with what Jerald said, if you have questions feel free to drop me a note.
Lastly if you do go, stay away from the "Keys" other wise you may want to take your stunt liver.

I attended in lieu of the CPOA. It was well worth it for many reasons. It gives you an interesting perspective on another service school and how their senior enlisted match up to ours.

So Dean, in your opinion, and others who attended this Academy, who's NCO's matched up better; theirs or "ours"?

BMCM Deane Smith

Ours. The CG far exceeds the AF when it comes to the responsibiliites that our senior enlisted have. The only thing the AF does better is education. Everyone in my flight had at least a BS/BA.

And a Meritorious Service Medal...

Actually, there was only one in my flight with an MSM.

The rest had at least one oak leaf cluster on their MSMs...

I found that our senior enlisted corps - actually, the ENTIRE enlisted corps - is more tight knit than theirs. It isn't surprising at all to see a herd of BM1s sitting on the mess deck the week before a servicewide - all studying together and helping each other out. That does NOT happen in the Air Force!!! And competition for awards and recognition is VERY keen... to get selected as the uber-mondo-student of the AFSNCO class is an amazing feather in their caps and they are all VERY competitive.

When the top student in the flight was named, my classmates congratulated him... and it was VERY obvious that they didn't mean a word of it and that they were all highly jealous.

Personally, I like our set up MUCH better!!!!

Although Senior Chief has a wonderful point about leadership training... and it has been a huge pet peeve of mine for some 14 years (since I came into the Guard).

I agree with Deane. I went through AF NCOA instead of our CPO Academy. I would have graduated as valedictorian if it wasn't for those other 500 people smarter than me.

The selection process is complete.

On Monday morning, I received orders to Gunter Annex, to be the next Coast Guard Liaison to the Air Force Senior NCO Academy.

Psssssst!! Have you all been to the CPO Academy? If not, do you want to go a different route and represent the Coast Guard to all our sister services? If you have, do you want to add a huge number of tools to your leadership and management toolbelt - and get a taste for what one of our sister services does?? :D

I hope to see you all in Alabama!!

Jerald,

I would be interested in some of the materials the Zoomies use in their training, if you are able how about posting some links to references, etc.
