I'm doing a little research. How many folks are out there that started their enlistment process prior to Sept 8th, 1980 yet didn't sign the dotted line till after that date?

Thanks.....John

I started the process on May 12th, 1981, and was shipped off to Army Basic training on 02June1981... so I am a bit too youthful for your post.

Is it considered highly disrespectful to call a Master Chief an "old fart"?? :p

Let's see here, I graduated high school on May 18, 1980 but didn't come into the CG till Feb 1990. I don't know if I am old or not, but my body sure is. I think I have worn out two of them already.

John, hope all is going well out at HQ. Everything is good at North Bend ... fyi Paul put in his retirement letter I believe for Feb 1st.
I assume, or not sure what you are asking for, but I am PROUD to assounce I signed Sept 78 and boot camp Oct. Kick-ass Alameda company Echo 121.
Alameda was the boot camp, Skate May was for the "other coast" wimps back then.

Hey Sir,

I just spoke to Paul yesterday about flight pay stuff.

I submitted a BCMR a while back trying to get my pay base date changed to reflect when I completed my paperwork. The board agreed to hear my request but would not change it because of the paper I signed 40 something days after High-3 took effect, even though I was accepted prior to the date. I was trying to see someone else was in the same boat. While I was waiting to leave for boot camp, the High-3 system got signed into law. No one told you that was going to happen. I located my recruiter a few years back. He does not recall any mention of High-3 till some time after 1981. What I was looking for was some recruiting pamplets from back then saying that military folks get 50% for retired pay. I need that for evidence so I can resubmit to the board. With High-3 you don't actually get 50% of your final pay when you retire. That adds up to thousands of dollars after you retire.

I went to Camp May. Yankee 109 I think. Back then that's where they sent the sharp folks. The folks with speedo sun tans, platform shoes, pet rocks, and disco chains went to the west coast boot camp called Hollywood. :D

Do you remember "Home Of The Whopper" skivvies??

Tough call. I always thought base pay was determined on the date you were accepted; like the time delay entry program.
I know on your LES on the second page no ones reads and throws away, it discusses two dates. Block 3 is the Pay Base Date. That's the date your pay and retirement is based on. Block 4 AD Base Date is the date accepted into the service.
Does this help any??
I like your comparisome between Skate May and the REAL boot camp Alameda.

I know about the LES blocks. They also remind you in the comments block (at least on mine) of your date. Seems like it gets rubbed in my face every month. Grrrrr....

I've got all my original records from back then. A few years ago HQ flushed my PDR and sent me all the original enlistment paperwork. All the completion dates are before H-3. The only date after is the one I signed for starting the Delayed Entry. That's what hurts. I could of signed earlier had I've known about the pending H-3 impact. No one knew.

I bet your Alameda CC looked like George Hamilton?? ;)

I'm in the high-3 plan, but August '84 was my in date for military service. Aren't the guys in your time bracket on the % of your last check program?

No. At that timeframe, anyone who signed in after Sept 6th (or 8th?) 1980 falls under Public Law Umpty Squat, ie....High-3. That was the then Congress cutting back on military spending.

Prior to that I believe it was called "final pay".
