If you look at the registered members, FS has one of the larger membership.

true, but doesn't seem to be much discussing going on in this forum.
Any one going to be attending the CPO Academy this summer?

Hey Randy,
I've been thinking about it for a year and I've decided it's Too Hot for my Alaskan blood down there in California and I have no desire to go for 8 so I am not going. I will be retiring in the next 1-3 years.

Probably going to hear some flack about that but.....

I have already been to the CPOA it was a learning experiance. Most good some bad. It was great meeting all the other chiefs and getting to learn from their experiances. Hope you have fun. I did.

Jayare,
You should go even if you’re retiring. Kind of like the CCTI thing, there are those that think that they don’t need it or want to go thru it. Learning is a never ending process and the Academy is a good way to add to your college credits. I felt the same way before I went. I’m not making 8 why go? But after some encouragement from the mess and the command I went and glad I did. Was there some stuff that I thought should be added and some things deleted sure but overall it was time well spent.

Art,
I would like to go mostly because of all the networking that goes on and the possabilities of seeing some old shipmates of mine but there are several things I have to consider that are keeping me from going (my excuses). (1) I have a 2 year old that I watch during the day and I work nights so the best time for me to go then would be during the summer when my high school kids are out of school so they could watch him during the day when my wife is at work. (2) It is way too hot for my Alaskan blood down there during the summer. (3) Two of my older kids think they have to go down to the lower 48 every summer to visit/stay with their friends that have transferred out (I wonder why they can't come up here?) which would only leave my 14 year old son to watch him. (you wouldn't believe how much stuff that kid can get into so I'm not comfortable leaving him to watch my little one for that long of a time. (4) As you know the deer hunting season opens August 1st up here. (5) My oldest graduates next month and we still don't know what she is going to do.

These are just some of the things I can think of off the top of my head. After my daughter figures out what she is going to do and when her classes are if she stays here and if she ever gets around to learning how to drive and takes her test and gets a drivers licence I would be interested in going in Jan, Feb, Mar or April after the hunting season is over and the weather is better suited for me down there.

I hear ya about the hot weather. I've been up here for almost 14 years and some people tell me I'm so white im transparent. The sun does not see my body very often and I think its hot when we hit 70.

And be carefull about leaving your 14 year old son in charge of your child. If anything happened, many states [right or wrong] call that parent neglict.
