Well I know many of us are sitting around waiting for the either the latest revisions of SWE cuts or the monthly advancement message. I know I am. And having done a little homework and research on this year things are looking far more open then HQ or CGPC lets on.
Now this will have a ripple effect down the BM world and might open more than a few eyes in the DC world. But we are currently looking at 20 (on the books with orders) with another possible 3-4 BMCM retirements or re-retirements this year. That makes things a banner year, more than I can remember in the past. That trickle down effect is also going to be huge all the way to at least BM1.

Bruce: The re-retirements shouldn't help out with advancements. My understanding is while they are filling BMCM billets, they do not "take" a billet.
However I have heard the same thing from the guy who would know. He said lots of retirements this year, which should help me make 9 next year.

Shawn, although the origianl "story" out of CGPC was that all the retired recalls did not count against the active duty numbers, even though PSC kept insisting that they did. In the end it turned out that PSC (and some Congressmen that asked) were right and they did count against the numbers. I can forward you the email that Captain Dee sent out last summer saying that she was wrong as she was walking out the retirement door.
It only made sense that if a body is in a job then there is no need to advance another person for that job. How else could we have started a new advancement year a few years ago with carry-overs from the prior 2 SWE cycles. But the 30 year line in the sand has again been drawn, unless you're taking a CMC job or have obligated service for advancement.

Bruce,
Hopefully I'll write a great test and come out in the top 5, only time will tell, I don't forsee anything this year that will help me, I'm sitting 17 on the list and we only have 19 SCPO. Hopefully your foresight is correct and over the next couple of years my rate,as well as all rates, will move more at the SCPO/MCPO level, Than this year's number; ZERO(DCCS), but we'll see when the revised cut comes out.
I've been studying a lot more than in the past, I'll see if it is the right stuff come SWE time.

I don't see where they're getting their numbers from. I have't see anything that shows that they have anything close to twenty BMCMs retiring before Jan. It will be April before they make the #1 guy. I hope they don't end up with carryovers.

If you guys want I'll send you the same stuff I sent Stu this morning, just say so. It's in my work email and also way too large to post here. Basically it's just some info to back up the numbers that Stu was questioning in his earlier post.
