Hey guys since we seem to make up the majority membership of this forum I couldn't stand to see the "tweet types" be the only ones with a thread going in this new venue.

But rather than just post and go leaving nothing, let's discuss the future of our rate through the Rate Force Master Chief. With Phil Wolf departing this summer for the retirement pastures (again), what is everyone looking for in and from our RFMC?

Please don't use this a venue to take pot shots at the current or former RFMC's, unless your willing to be one applying for that position.

I was glad to see the RFM at the OINC review board, it's my understanding he sat at several different boards to see how "standard" or "non-standard" they were. So that's a good thing.

BMCS, kinda misleading on the title of the thread, but it's a damn good one! ;)

Hate to see him go. He kept us well informed. Hope the next guy just picks up where he left off.

The more people tell me NOT to take pot shots, the more I want to.........
I want the next RFM to carry on what MC Wolf was doing.......keeping us informed. I like to be able to look at current force notes and letting my people know where they stand. It's also nice to have that one place where you can look to see what the newest changes that came down the pipe were. I also liked that he shed a little more light on some of those recent RFC's.

Information...Information...Information. If the next RFMC can provide us with those 3 things, I'll be happy. Master Chief Wolf has done a great job during his time and the next RFMC will have some big shoes to fill to maintain his level of information sharing. Like John said, I'm glad that he went out to several OINC review boards to ensure consisitency. He's doing all of the right things!

Bruce does this mean you are "applying" for the job?????

A couple of worklist items for the next FM:

- Bring back the NAVRUL test for advancement to BM3. I am sick of
hearing how hard it is. BOO HOO past it and move on, we all did.

- DWO test passed for advancemt to BM1 (see above). Again most
of us did it and we are not worse for the wear. I know there is
talk of one test for NAVRULs, whatever just make em' pass
something!!!!!!!

- Change CG Regs and CG PERSMAN to allow OIC's to endorse letters
for their crews. I just had an OCS package I endorsed returned for
the CO's signature, my Capt doesn't know this guy...... Make the
OIC/CO interchangeable in those manuals, they are for the most
part but read them closely.....................

- Quarterly updates the force notes, now they appear to be
sporadic, so it would be nice to see them more routinely. They are
great source of info and I "strongly" encourage my BM's to read
them.

John, truthfully I was thinking more of you for the job. I think that there is a requirement for policical correctness that rules me out, big time. That and my belief that there is no intelligent life east of I-5.

Bruce, that last comment leads me to believe that you were the BM1 on the IRIS in the early 90's. Is that right? Don't worry if you are, I won't tell any of the stories that I heard. ;)

And that was the best tour of my career. I'd trade it all away to go back to that job, with that crew on that boat operating in that environment again in a minute.

Not that I want to hear the stories (no telling who lurks in the shadows) but am more interested in who is telling. "What happens on the boat stays on the boat".

I just realized that Boatswains was mispelled, typo I'm sure????

Yep, just a typo...just like "misspelled" :) :)

Ha! Hey, at least mispelled and misspelled sound the same :p

Bruce, I was the BM3/2 that used to wheel you your buoy's and run the crane on shore. When you guys went to work, we went sturgeon fishing. I am not going to drop names, but you know who used to come over to our shop on a daily basis. It might have been the same guy that had a problem while in the yard at Coos. ;)

Well I was wondering when or if someone would catch that. Thought for sure it was going to be one of the other rates.

And Jim, there were lots of "problems" during that extended yard period down in Coos Bay.

BMCS Curtis Dewey

I dont remember any problems at that yard period....come to think of it...the only thing i remember is .99 cent gas in reedsport and all the "historic bridges" there are on US101.

Curtis you would have to have been sober to remember anything. Which come to think of it was how all of us spent most of that time over at the "Boloney Pony Village". That place will never be the same.

BMCS Jim Madsen

I just remember hearing a story about a target for watermelon that still cracks me up.

Burt, I learned most of that "everything" from you..... and you help introduce me to those I didn't know.

Seriously Bruce would do a much better job plus he is up for MC!

Oh I could come up with a whole bunch of stuff for that worklist, that was just a quick thought.

Come on John, you already knew all those folks. You could be the first RF Senior Chief huh?
