The $54 paid thru pay-per-view was worth it. The Pacquiao vs. Hatton fight was awesome- woke up from my late nap to see it. Hatton was knocked out NLT 3rd round (actually 2nd)- unbelievably exciting. Pacquiao is one little guy with double fists of fury. Both made $12 milllion plus royalties from HBO viewship. Everybody's talking up how the PACMAN is the best fighter - "pound for pound."
Rumors now abound - Shall Pacquiao fight with Mayweather, Jr. (who's coming out of retirement)?

IT would be- just like the Barrera and Marquez rematches...but there's been calls for Pacquiao's retirement while he is in his prime and before he starts getting work-related health problems like his trainer, Freddie Roach, who is suffering from early onset of Parkinson's disease.

Sarah,
Do you watch any of the cage fighting/MMA?

Watched it once or twice...couldn't catch on, just yet. After watching the fight, I have an affinity to the pure sport of boxing which I follow off and on. Used to watch the heavyweights, but they seem to be slow and dumpy, even though they are undeniably powerful like Iron Mike. However, watching the lighter class of boxers who are much, much faster and agile seem to be more exciting. Imagine this- Pacquiao threw threw 127 punches in 359 seconds- making Hatton a punching bag that knocked him down 3 times.
Funny thing is, Pacquiao is like a kid in a candy store with a silly smile when he said, "I'm just doing my job...I love to entertain and hope everyone's enjoyed the show...I'll fight whoever my trainer tells me who to fight, it's up to him..."
The next exciting fight will be Mayweather vs. Marquez on July 18, but the real dream match would be Mayweather vs Pacquiao.

Ya, I can remember the first time I recall anything boxing related. That was all the fuss shortly after Cassius Clay changed his name back in the 1960's and later on refused to fight in the war.
The fights back then had some real hype coming with them. I think one thing about Ali that he was brilliant at was marketing his fights. He had the gift of gab and was good at it!!

Yah, MC- I remember "Thrilla of Manila" with Ali vs. Foreman;anything Ali did was nothing short of famous, even when he lost.
You know, with the rise of mixed martial arts and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, many consider boxers a dying breed. I had my doubts and in my opinion, fights like Saturday's may have put the pulse back into the sport.
Boxing is nothing I really cared for until I understood the technical aspects of it And with boxing lately lacking the luster attention and dynamics of Ali's heyday, the Pacqiuao/Hatton fight reminded me of the titanic bouts fought by the likes of Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, and Mike Tyson in the 90's.
If the Pacquaio/Mayweather match does happen, though it won't be the same, we'll get a taste of boxing's glory years.
