The dreaded FRMM 5.K has me and I'm hoping that someone knows of another source or avenue to take. I am a "cookless" unit and in need of purchasing new pots/pans for my crew. They stand port/stbd duty with sliding weekends and bring their own food in to prepare and cook themselves. The pots/pans we currently have are very old and worn out. We've been told by countless people that we cannot use 30 funds for this as per 5.K and that we need to use morale money or pay out of pocket. I refuse to use morale money for this, and do not expect people to pay out of pocket just to have a pan to cook dinner in while at work.

Can this be justified? How do others go about it?

thanks.....

Seth

Set a couple years ago a COCO alert came out and changed the requirements for purchasing coffee mess items and stuff for break rooms. It allowed for the items to be purchased with OG 30. I dont have a copy anymore.

I went through the same thing at Baltimore with my first 49'. I bought it and audit said I couldn't, I said sorry, wont happen again. I dd not care I wont get fired for it.

Thats my thought about it, but just wanted to see if there was something else out there I could do. I'll research and look for the COCO alert and see if I can find it.

Thanks!

We ran into the same problem at Station Depoe Bay when I was there. We received an E-Mail to put in the PR folder from the COCO stating that the intent of the FRMM was not to limit stations that needed things for their kitchen and that we were authorized to buy anything necessary for the crew to cook their meals. I don't have it right now (I lost me E-mails when I transferred) but I'll look around and see what I can find.

I did not have a cook at my last unit nor do I have one at my current unit. I have used OG 30 money to purchase cooking items. I have never had any problems from the COCO or FINCEN.

Seth,
We bought new one for the 55 ANB and a few for the unit did not have any trouble. I will e-mail you the info I got in the am.

Seth,
Thinking "out of the box", if you route an Evergreen Request to your district through your Sector, I bet at a minimum you will get authorization to use your unit funds to purchase food preparation equipment. However, you just might get that stuff paid for by someone else. I.e. Sector or District. I would ask for the good stuff too.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll get the ball rolling tomorrow when I get in the office. I bailed early today to go pick up a new (used) fourwheeler so that I could blast through the foot of fresh snow we got yesterday! 2001 Honda Rubicon 500 4x4. Man, that thing is FUN! :D
