Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from MC Welch? Started wondering when I looked at CG Central and the latest thing listed from the Master Chief of the CG is a speech from January of 04  . I honestly cant remember the last time I heard anything from the office.

The general description is that the E10 is the Commandant's eyes and ears of the Enlisted Workforce. While that is true, it is probably more important to understand that the job of the E10 is also to be the Commandant's mouth piece to the the Enlisted Workforce.
My observations of the MCPO-CG Job is that it is not something I would want to take on. It is a job that you have got to want and it is a job that requires the ability be political.
There is testimony with the other service E10's on enlsited matters such as pay, medical, etc. I am sure that on more than one occassion each day, his attention gets diverted for some sort of Congressional inquiry, not to mention sitting with the Commandant. Of course there is the travel to show his face around the Coast Guard. Oh wait, I forgot, he also has a family that would like to see him every once in awhile.
All that aside, I am sure that he is getting things done behind the scenes, but if we are his Chief's Corps and he relies on us to help get the message out then we need better communucation from him on issues in order to do what he needs us to do.
I equate the position of E10 as being the CG COTM, hmmmmm sounds like we have had conversations like that in other threads, regarding the (un)effectiveness of the Mess.
I am not saying he is uneffective as a person, but I would like to get more information coming from his office on issues so that I can get a better feel for what is going on in general.

Frank Welch is a "quiet type person"??? Master Chief Welch???
The same Master Chief Welch that was d9 CEA back in 1993 who caused so much hate and discontent when he declared, "If you aren't fighting to get advanced, get out of my Coast Guard! If you don't have two correspondence courses out right now - and you are making progress on them - get out of my Coast Guard!!"??????
I am still amazed that this is the same guy! Things haven't changed for the better THAT much since 1993!!! ;)

Just one of my many pet peeves.....the CG has no E-10. The pay scale goes to E-9 and then to W-1. And the mere fact that so many of us haven't HEARD anything since the last changing of the watch, SPEAKS volumes. Not LOL, scratching my head in silence. Practically.

I don't think there's such a paygrade as E-10 either and I believe it was a slang term. Key word...was. The new P-EME Study Guide shows the CG as having the only E-10. Wonder what MCPON (and the rest) think about that? Anyhoo...here's my point, MCPOCG at paygrade E-10 is being taught to every enlisted person in the CG through P-EME.

Actually, in Accordance with ALCOAST 316/05 it is E9 with SDAP5 and the billet is listed as CMC (MCPOCG).
I stand corrected in my previous use of the term E10, it is a slang term that I picked up along the way and have never given it up, I even still CG Magazine the Bulletin on occassion.

I know not everyone is a fan of Freds Place, but if you really want to beat the E-10 horse anymore, there is a thread under History and Trivia with 191 posts to the subject! :D

His LES states E-10, his military ID state he is an E-9(spc). Why because when the senior enlisted billets were created they were to be called E-10s but the DOD said no and decided to call them E-9(spc) the DOT elected to keep it as E-10 same animal, same priveleges and seniority just different label. The I.D.s are created via DEERS which is DOD so his I.D. states the equivalent, hence E-9(spc). The payscales are DOD so no E-10. The CG still has an E-10 paygrade, just not published.
I saw the same thing in the E-PME so I sent him an email asking about it. It would be nice seeing some official clarification on it though.

OK, so now back to the original queston posed at the beginning, where is he and what is going on that we as the Collective CG CPO Mess going to do?
What is going on and how can we carry the message to the crew?

Might I suggest contacting your local Silver Badge. They in turn should contact your local Gold Badge. They in turn will contact your local MCPOCG. Having worked in the office next to his (the one with the double glass doors)and knowing the schedule he keeps and considering there are literally thousands of E-7, 8, & 9's in the CG, I think it a totally impractical/unrealistic/unreasonable expectation that he would have the time to have regular direct contact with the entire "Chief's Mess" The Gold Badge network is the direct connection to the office. If your not getting the info you need or expect, run your concerns thru the Silver/Gold network and see what happens. I suspect that the disconnect lies in there.

Senior Chief Gentile,
I suspect you are absolutely correct with the disconnect being in the Gold/Silver Badge Network -- I will aproach my Silver Badge today on the issue.
Any Gold/Silver Badges want to weigh in on this? How is information passed in your circles? Is it blanket forwarded? Is it filtered? Who is filtering and what determines thw parameters for filtering?
I am at a geographically removed HQ unit, and have rarely seen anything passed via e-mail that was sent via the Gold Badge Network.

Linda, looks like the Andrews South Course to me?
If the MCPO-CG were infact an E-10 he would not have been eligible for the All Service E-9 Tournament.

Right you are, Nick!
All the E-10's are welcome to play in the E-9 tournament.
After all, they're really E-9(spec)'s or something, right. :D
