I know from my own experiance what Derliction of Duty is but what constitutes Derliction of Duty for other rates? Your thoughts.

Pretty simple... it is the avoidance of any duty which may be properly expected, by anyone, in any rating...

dereliction of duty is addressed within the regulations governing the failure to obey an order or regulation. It means that one willfully, through negligence or culpable inefficiency, fails to perform one's expected duties.

What is this for a YN, SK, FS, ET, IT, HS........

I would say, as an HS, if I failed to perform my duties as I'm trained to do them, this would apply. What that means is if I'm standing duty at the Yorktown clinic and someone is in need of medical attention, if I tell them to come back in the morning then I'm derilict in my duties...

I'd say it gets a little grayer when there isn't an actual watch involved and you're talking about day to day responsibilities... when is a simple mistake a deriliction of duty?

As an ET I would say the same, if my equipment is down or CGPMS is due and I blow it off for Libo then it applies.

Does the same hold true if the YNs fail to assist, gives bad info to the junior folks, or causes a member not to get a bonus that they were qualified for? What about the cook that puts out the meal that isnt fit for human consumption? Or the SK that misplaces a part?

Its a pretty simple line that is easy see and enforce for some rates, not so easy to enforce in others. Dang it cookie you served raw chicken for the last time, I am putting you on report for derliction of duty!!

Mark,
I sense your are getting at something, but in a round about way... lay your cards on the table.. I doubt you are trying to put everyone on report.

We have been dealing with a large ammount of oops my bads of various rates. Pay, supply tech support etc. Grumpy Friday, but a question I have often asked just never here.

I guess how much does it have to effect someone else before it is dereliction?

Ahhhh gotcha.. but it sounds more like incompentency that dereliction... I think if I were you I would contact their supervisor... Another thing I would do is to start logging things as they happen...

I was very fortunate.. I had great YN support over the years...

Yep, keep contemporanous notes on everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

When you notify the supervisors is up to you, but I would apply the three-strike rule, on the third strike --- the email is out the door to the supervisor with CC: to the offender.

Three more strikes, the email (original and new), would be heading out to the supervisor's supervisor, and CC: to offender and supervisor.

And it works up from there.

And at marking time, I would send a memo to the marking official and marking supervisor the notes with recommendations of which catagories to be raised or lowered. After all, you might have alot of contemporanous notes in the positive. :D
