I posted this over on Military.com, but thought it might be better served here.
I heard that military members have free access to the Rosetta Stone language learning courses? Does anyone know if this is true? If so, where does a guy sign up to take these courses?

I did a few searches and found the Army and Air Force have it for their members, can't find anything else.

Well, maybe it's time for us to start receiving some of these bennies. I'm sure there are many of us out there that could benefit from this. Such as those down south doing boardings.
This might be a good one for MCPOCG??

There was a message put out a couple of months ago about this. It is an online language course for free. I will see if I can druge up the link and post it.

Thanks. I had heard that the Army and AF have access to it through their military account.

My LT tried accessing it through Army learning on the homepage of the CG Learning Portal. He went through the sign-up process, and had another reserve LT who works for the Army Corp sponsor him. But when my LT got to the site to access Rosetta Stone, it shot him down.
This might be a good subject to bring up at the Senior Enlisted Call at the end of the month??

My guess is our sister services pay Rosetta for the use, which I'm pretty sure leaves us out...

I think that would be a pretty good guess. I doubt R.S. just gave the other services the use of their stuff out of the kindness of their heart.

I heard you could order the course and get re-imbursed by TA. This would make it technically free.

I haven't heard anything about Rosetta Stone but this site is free, self-paced, and windows media player based. www.fsi-language-courses.com

This was posted on our ESO board but I have not had time to talk to him and find out the particulars.
Reimbursement for Language Software
Great news for those who are interested in learning another language! If you have considered one of the numerous computer-based programs, but
have had second thoughts because of the cost you can relax. Grants available through the Coast Guard Foundation will reimburse you for the cost
of the software.
All you need is a receipt and your grant application. NOTE: your receipt must show both the cost and what you paid for; a receipt for $450 but no
indication what it was for is worthless. Contact your ESO for a grant application

Update, I just talked with our ESO, he stated that Rosetta Stone can be reimbursed.

Any word on how a reservist would fit into this? Could we be reimbursed also?

we just recently looked into buying it for our station (Espanol) and was shot down because it required software to be installed, and it hasn't been through the magical IT vetting process. Anyone know if I was mislead?

I believe you have to request it from your ESD. Don't remember the form number.

You have go throught the LCCB process (ask you local ESD). BUT, if you have a stand alone computer, you can certainly load it on that.
