I had the great pleasure of attending the Change of Watch for the Coast Guard Ancient Keeper and Retirement Ceremony for BMCM Jack Downey yesterday at Station Point Judith RI. It was pretty much a who's who of D1 sailors, fellow ancients and Boat Forces members from all over the country.

Congratulations to Jack of 43 plus years of dedicated service. The word legend was batted around in several of the speeches and I suspect that it will not take long for that to become the reality of it. Thanks Jack, I count myself a better Chief for having known you.

I must say this change of watch and retirement ceremony was by far the most moving event I have seen in my career. It reminded me once again about why I joined the sevice and why I love what this organization represents.

I am honored to have met Master Chief Downy, and yes I do believe I will see him name in the future as a SWE question along those that have gone before us. Maybe it's already happened....hmmm?, how about this, "Who was the Coast Guard First Ancient Keeper?" Ohh, Ohh, I know him!

Congrats Master Chief, the coffee's always hot, the doors always open. You are welcomed anytime.
