Well, it's getting to be that time up here in the great, soon to be again, white north.

Getting the itch to tee it up, and swing the club. The smell of fresh cut grass, the chirping of the birds, and the sound of a ball coming through the trees causing me to run for my life.

So how many mashie-niblick owners are there here?

It's always great golfing weather here in sunny SC, Next week I'll be heading down to Disney World to play in the 7th district mwr tournement, this will be 16 straight years. For years I play in the CG Invitational but I agree the cost are more than most junior coasties can afford, this issue has been brought up many times with no results. Perhaps a note to the MCPO-CG.

Yep, I think you may be right. It's almost to the point of discriminating against the junior folks that may want to attend, but simply can't afford it. There are many fine military courses around, where folks can stay at on-base Space A housing and play cheaply. But, you make it expensive and near HQ, it doesn't take a rocket scientist or a BM to read between the lines on this one. It's the higher-ups way of keeping the non-rates out and for them to have their own little get together.

Here's an idea. Take all these MWR tourney's, and have the grand prize be an all expenses paid trip to the CG Invitational. Call it "The Coast Guard Open".

You guys need to read the fine print. It is the Coast Guard INVITATIONAL. Not the Coast Guard OPEN. Invitational means if you can't afford it, you are not invited.

Many years ago when I was a SN, we had the 13th district golf association. For like $20.00 per year, we were invited to monthly tournements held in the Puget Sound area. Green fees were always reletivly inexpensive so most anyone could afford it. Funny thing is I would meet people that I was foursomed up with and we were all on a first name basis on the course, then I might later run into them and they would be a CDR or something. It was kind of fun for an SN to meet these folks on a social basis prior to learning who they were.

Invitational means if you can't afford it, you are not invited.

Thanks for making my point, Senior. It could be made affordable at many other nice courses, but the powers that be choose to not have it that way so it can be their own little boon-doggle.

So let's take the name a step further. If not the CG Open, or CG Invitational, how about the CG O-Club Scramble. ;) My point being; if it looks like a Bear, and smells like a Bear, than call it a Bear. Don't call it an Invitational if you know that half the Coasties can't come close to affording it, and therefor are not invited, as Senior put it.

I hate to ruin your golfing party, but given the at least two discussions concerning the spelling and accuracy of posts to message traffic, e-mails on this board I present the following.

It ain’t “four!” that a golfer shouts out when he or she is about to tee off. It is……

Fore!: What to shout when your ball is headed toward another player.
http://www.nygolfshuttle.com/GolfTerminology.htm

Or another take on it

Fore - The first of several four-letter words exchanged between golfers as one group of players hits balls toward another in front of them on the course.
http://www.golfjokes.co.uk/dictionary/f.html

I am more than happy to clear that up for you (and I am not a golfer) :)

Well Raymond, before you correct too hard youmay simply not know the conversation at the tee. Some one may have just asked me how many beers it takes to hit a ball that bad. At which point I may be yelling out FOUR.

Just a thought

Or how many balls you have sliced into the woods and your mulligans have been used up..

As someone who has played in these events going back almost forty years they used to be affordable for all, they were played at military bases like Ft. meade, Andrews air force base and many resort courses that offered great deals. At one event maybe ten years ago Retired capt. Sabol & Dr. Mike ask for anyone wanting to assist them to sign up, Myself & P.O. Mike Wiggins did so, we never heard from them, I guess they really didn't want help!!!
