I don't know if you have ever heard of this show, but I was watching it yesterday and the 'victim' was a Coast Guard aircrew member. Judging by the house and the age of the of the victim and his daughters, he was an O5/06.

I was intrigued (a.k.a. pi$$ed) when the former professional burglar who breaks into houses as part of the shows theme/concept announced to the victim that he was a former Coast Guardsman. For those of you who have seen it on Discovery, this is the actual burglar, not the 'host'.

Thoughts... I am kind of wishing the powers that be for the show edited that part out of it.

Maybe that is why he is a former Coastguardsmen. It would have been nice if they explained why he was no longer in.

I didn't see it. Anyone remember what the guys name was? Unfortunatly, I have known a few now ex-coasties that could fit this guy.

I saw that when it aired last year. Both the host and the burglar claim to be ex-thieves, I think the host is/was a teacher. I wonder how many shipmates this guy ripped off, isn't it nice that a criminal can find fame in breaking the law. I doubt he will ever use any of his new found wealth to pay back his victims. He probably believes that he is making amends by teaching people how to protect themselves for a-holes like him.

Eric, he said "the 'victim' was a Coast Guard aircrew member", not the thief....

The thief in the show is an ex-Coastie, the "victim" was an airdale also. All they said about the victim was he was part of the aircrew. Not sure if a pilot. They talk about the show's thief, John Douglas Rainey, being an ex-coastie on about every other episode.

Here's the show's bio on Rainey

http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/ittakesathief/bios/bios.html

It says he received an honorable discharge. He must never had been convicted or the whole "false enlistment" thing could have been an issue. I actually like the show, it show's how they can be in your house, steal all the important stuff, and be out in under 10 minutes. Sometimes I am convinced they tell him where to look, otherwise he never would have found where the cash is hidden.

I have watched the show, but after one or 2 episodes they are all the same. I didn't hear about the ex-coastie thing on the shows I watched. After reading the bio, I would guess he's from southern NJ, maybe near Cape May???
