If anyone will be transfering to the Jacksonville, FL area I have a beautiful house that I am trying to sell or rent out. It is 10 Minutes from the base and in a great neighborhood and school district. E-mail me for details or pictures.

The same goes for my place. Looking to sell or rent. Will take a loss for rent compared to my mortgage. It is located in Tamarac, Fl in the Westwood Community 5 Section 23 subdivision located near the SAWGRASS Expressway with A+ school districts. Will post later with more details.

Gene,

I feel for ya. When I left that area (Tamarac as well) and sold my condo it took 10 months, and that was in an up market. My realtor talked a lot better than he performed and after the second renewal of the contract with him ended we switched realtors and bam it was gone in a bout a month.

Price it below what the market will bear and find a good realtor or you may find yourself in the same boat I was in. Paying HOA dues, mortgage, ins power etc. for 10 months while it sat empty. That was a tough pill to swallow and costly. I would've rented it out but once we decided to sell we didn't want a tennant in and possibly trash the place, and the original realtor was very confident it would sell within 3 months. Lesson learned for us.

I know the feeling. I STILL own a house in Hamilton, IL from when I was at Gru Upper Miss two years ago. I had it on the market for a year, nothing. I took the sign down last fall and will put it back on the market in April. Luckily it has been rented all but a couple months. Unfortunatly the rent is less than the mortgage. If anyone knows anyone that is heading to the Scioto this summer my house is right across the river in IL. let me know, I will make a heck of a deal.

I've got a house in the Detroit area if anyone's interested. Turns out - Michigan is having their own recession. We bought it for 168,000 in 2006 but will sell for 155,000 if neccessary. We have to move to San Diego this summer. I'm not complaining - just hoping to get her rented or sold....:)

I have recently heard about a program where the goverment will buy your house at fair maket value, or at the remainder of your loan. Has anyone else heard of this program. I heard about it from a Marine and someone that is a US Forestetry Fireman? Any info would help.

That was a program started under BRAC. I do not know if it is still active, but it only applied if your position was being relocated because of BRAC (Base Reallignment and Closure). It was called the Homeowner Assistance Program. I don't think very many Coasties would ever qualifiy for it.

Be Safe,

Brett

By the way, if you know anyone transfering to Yorktown/Hamton Roads, It looks like my house in Gloucester may be going on the market.

Mark, pretty uch what MC said. I looked into it when I was at GRU Upper and they were turning into Sector Upper and moving everyone. it is a very detailed deal. Not a garuntee and we pretty much did not qualify. One of the stipulations, if I remember correctly was that the closing of the base had to have an impact on the community. Needless to say we did not qualify.

I have 4bd 2.5 bath for sale/rent in the Seattle AOR. It is in Maple Valley, about 35 min SE of Seattle. Great schools and a small town feel. Moving to Alameda this summer, I was hoping to get a couple more years here but the detailer didn't see it that way.

I've been noticing quite a few Coasties around the country trying to sell and not having much luck. Some are going to be financially devastated. I hope too many folks don't get hurt.

I'm glad I didn't buy here in the DC area. I already have one house in Traverse City, having a second high $$ one I couldn't sell would have been ugly.

Good luck to all trying to sell your places.
