I noted this posting by Jack Crowley and thought I'd pass it along... I have many fond memories of Dick at CPOA Conventions. He was a strong supporter and gave me advise when I was trying to start the Corpus Christi Chapter. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family members.
"It is with regreat that I inform you of the crossing over the bar of another great Coastguardsman and Chief Petty Officer. On January 30th in a hospital in Cookson,OK. ATC Richard (Dick) Wells passed over the bar. Many of you old timers and CPOA Members knew him as an easy going likeable Sailor. Dick was born in 1938 and after joining the Coast Guard he was appointed Chief in 1974 and joined the CPOA, at the same time he was elected as the President of the Huston Chapter of the CPOA and four years later be became the National Vice President. In 1995 he was honored with the highest award that the CPOA has to offer. Dick became the 12th CPOA Gold Lifetime Member. I know that the CPOA as well as many Coast Guardsman and Retirees will miss him and our prayers are with Norma at this time of Mourning."
